MINUTE entry before the Honorable Thomas M. Durkin: Plaintiff's ex parte motion for leave to conduct expedited discovery [12] is granted in part and denied in part. The motion is granted to the extent that Plaintiff seeks contact information for Defendants, because this information is reasonably necessary for Plaintiff to serve Defendants. The motion is denied to the extent Plaintiff seeks information regarding Defendants' financial accounts. Discovery of financial account information might be necessary on an ex parte and expedited basis if Plaintiff had sought preliminary injunctive relief in the form of an asset freeze. But Plaintiff has not sought any preliminary injunctive relief. For that reason, expedited discovery regarding Defendants' financial accounts is inappropriate. Additionally, the proposed order Plaintiff's submitted on this motion included findings regarding personal jurisdiction. The Court generally requires a showing that Defendants sold products in Illinois, including an attorney declaration to that effect, to make a preliminary finding of personal jurisdiction. Plaintiff has not made such a showing, so the Court will not make findings regarding personal jurisdiction. Plaintiff should submit a revised proposed order in accordance with this order.
